Job Overview:

The Mercatus Center at George Mason University is seeking a Research Intern to join the Urbanity Project team. This internship offers a unique opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research on housing policy, urban economics, and land use law while supporting scholars who are driving innovative, pro-housing policy solutions.

Through this internship, you’ll gain experience in applied research, policy analysis, and legislative review, while networking with pro-housing organizations and experts across Washington, D.C. This is an excellent opportunity for students interested in urban policy, economics, or law who want to deepen their understanding of how policy impacts housing affordability and city development.

Koch Internship Program:

This position is also offered in conjunction with the Koch Internship Program, sponsored through Stand Together. Participation in this program may qualify you for an additional stipend on top of your salary and provide a more comprehensive educational experience in classical liberalism.

Research Intern - Urbanity Project

Note: You must still complete a separate application with Mercatus.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with Urbanity scholars and research assistants on housing-related research projects.
  • Read, analyze, and summarize academic work in urban economics, planning, and land use law.
  • Review and synthesize state legislation related to housing policy.
  • Contribute to long-term research projects with minimal supervision.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in a college or university degree program.
  • Strong verbal, written, and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated enthusiasm for learning and the ability to work on a range of topics.
  • Genuine interest in the Mercatus Center’s mission and principles of classical liberalism.
