Stanford University is seeking a Human Resources Generalist to provide human resources administrative support under the direct supervision of the Human Resources Business Partner and with a dotted line reporting relationship to the Human Resources Manager. The Basic Science Shared Services Consortium supports a majority of the basic science departments and 1 institute in the School of Medicine, which consist of a total population of 700 (faculty, academic staff, non-academic staff, contingent and student employees). The Human Resources Generalist will be assigned half of this population and act as the first point of contact for most human resources inquiries, and serve as a resource to staff and faculty on human resources policies, procedures, and practices.

This is an exciting opportunity to be a Human Resources Generalist in performing a variety of tasks such as but not limited to new employee onboarding, working with hiring managers in the job posting and hiring process, working on employment visas, assisting employees with understanding policies, and performing other Human Resources Generalist duties. Training will be provided as we are seeking an enthusiastic, hard-working, and detail-oriented individual interested in joining a team of Human Resources professionals that have a passion and keen focus on providing excellent customer service, working in a fun and fast-paced team work environment, as well as supporting our population of faculty, staff, contingent, and student employees.

Duties include:

  • Compensation and benefits: Process compensation-related transactions and respond to benefits-related questions using standard operating procedures and university guidelines and policies, including salary actions, bonuses, and other supplemental pay. Escalate unique and/or complex compensation and benefits requests to the supervisor or more senior HR team members.
  • Disability and Leaves / Workers’ Comp: Answer routine questions and explain applicable disability/leave (DLS) and workers’ compensation (WC) procedures to employees and managers. Generate related correspondences. Coordinate with DLS and/or WC specialists when appropriate.
  • HRIS/People Analytics: Support data entry, and record retention. Generate standard reports utilizing the HCM system for purposes of compliance, audit, and metrics.
  • Performance Management: Support the tracking of performance appraisal forms. Run reports and provide updates to more senior HR team members on completion rates. Assist with inquiries related to the performance management program and technology as needed.
  • Talent Acquisition: Support the candidate experience including job postings, application reviews, interview scheduling, collecting rater feedback, disposition of candidates, etc. Assist in coordinating the onboarding and exit processes for staff. Liaise with central university offices as needed.
  • Transactions: Process high volume HR transactions in the HCM system using standard operating procedures and university guidelines for multiple types of HR transactions, including hiring, personnel changes, reclassifications and related activities.
  • Process centralized operational work for all school and VP areas including, but not limited to, Tuition Grant Program applications, background checks and compliance, benefit contribution payroll adjustments, retiree records, Welcome Center hiring and enrollments, contributory retirement accounts for rehires, etc. Respond to employee questions and perform corrections for these same university-wide operational processing functions.
  • Maintain personnel and human resources-related files.
  • Maintain consistency with Stanford HR policies, procedures and requirements, and applicable local, state and federal laws.

This position will be based on the Stanford main campus. Hybrid work schedule; 3 days of telecommuting work per week.

The budgeted pay range for this position is $29.87 to $35.26 per hour.

Stanford University provides pay ranges that reflect a good-faith estimate of what it expects to pay for a role. Actual pay depends on factors such as the candidate's experience, education, and skills.

The Human Resources Support and Partner roles perform as trusted and consultative human resources partners to leaders, managers, and employees and are responsible for providing full-service human resources support and delivery. The Human Resources People Manager roles perform as trusted and strategic human resources advisors to leaders and employees and are responsible for providing full-service human resources support and delivery of consultative support to leaders, managers, and employees, and achieve goals through the management of staff and teams; may have multiple levels of professional or supervisory staff. All Human Resources roles develop and drive human resources initiatives across the school/unit/department, partnering with COEs and other departments as necessary for seamless adoption and implementation of programs and processes.

Minimum Education:

Associate Degree or combination of education and relevant experience.

Minimum Experience:

0-2 years of administrative or customer support services experience preferred.
