Chief of Staff
The Office of Congressman George Whitesides, U.S. House of Representatives
The Mission The Office of Congressman George Whitesides is building a team dedicated to solving the nation’s most important problems. We are looking for a Chief of Staff to serve as a strategic partner in executing an agenda that will create solutions for the 27th District and the nation, including areas like Abundance (housing, energy, healthcare, jobs, safety), Science & Innovation (energy grid and production, digital health, agency capacity), Structural Reform (military and veterans, government capacity, national debt, congressional modernization), and Nature (wildfires, climate, biodiversity).
Who You Are
We are looking for a Doer—someone who prioritizes outcomes over process.
- Clear, Steady Manager: You give feedback directly, create processes and structure, manage the team to meet schedules, resolve problems quickly, and ensure the team operates with cohesion, trust, and purpose.
- Good Faith: You operate with low ego and high trust. You build camaraderie easily.
- Strategic & Smart: You can see the chessboard. You achieve surprisingly good outcomes by finding clever, entrepreneurial ways to achieve larger goals.
- High-Bandwidth & Responsive: This is a demanding role. While we value sustainable work habits, you must be available and responsive after hours and on weekends when the mission requires it.
- Unconstrained by Convention: You do not accept "that’s how it’s always been done" as an answer. You are willing to push for uncommon speed and novel solutions.
- Comfortable with a Flat Structure: You thrive in an office where the Congressman engages directly with staff at all levels. Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Execution: Turn the Member’s ambitious policy goals into legislative reality.
- Operational Leadership: Manage the Member’s office operations and Representational Allowance (MRA) with precision.
- Team Building: Recruit, hire, and mentor a staff that shares our obsession with solving problems. District Integration: Ensure the DC policy agenda delivers tangible results for California’s 27th District.
Requirements
- Demonstrated leadership, management, and problem-solving experience is required.
- Hill experience is preferred, but we are open to exceptional candidates from other backgrounds who have a track record of solving complex problems in high-pressure environments.
- This is not an entry-level position; significant official or political experience is preferred.
To Apply The office is an equal opportunity employer. Qualified candidates should submit a cover letter and resume via this form by December 15, 2025. https://lnkd.in/eZ7-BM7B
