POSITION SUMMARY

This role aims to support ULI’s member leadership in the Netherlands to further the mission of ULI and the Netherlands National Council (ULI Netherlands) and grow and retain the membership; organise events and programmes for various member cohorts and markets and communicate these activities effectively, working in close collaboration with colleagues across ULI in Europe, including other country teams, NC support team, marcomms, and business development and membership.

The candidate must have strong organisational and management skills, an entrepreneurial spirit, and the ability to multitask and respond to situations quickly. They will have strong interpersonal skills and enjoy interacting with and managing meetings with volunteer members. ULI Netherland’s membership includes senior-level business executives, government and public officials, and senior members of the real estate and land use community.

Attendance at member events is required, as well as scheduled in-person meetings with the Chair of ULI Netherlands.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

In partnership with the Chair and Executive Committee of ULI Netherlands develop and execute a comprehensive membership programme to retain existing members, increase the number of members and encourage upgraded memberships, by making ULI Netherlands activities relevant to the needs of (prospective) members.

Member Engagement and Retention

A pivotal part of this role is to engage proactively with members at every stage — including those on 90-day trial memberships, new members requiring onboarding support, and existing members seeking continued value. The incumbent will foster strong relationships through regular communication, guidance, and follow-up, ensuring members are well-informed and connected to the association’s programs and initiatives. By applying best practices and insights shared across regions, the goal is to strengthen member engagement and contribute to improved retention outcomes.

Events / Programmes

  • Manage and execute all logistical aspects of planning (including budgets) and delivering high-quality National Council events (digital and physical) with focus on the annual flagship event.
  • Budget management and tracking finances.
  • Oversee relationships with third-party contractors; management of procurement processes and negotiating with suppliers.
  • Input to the programming aspects of events by working with colleagues across ULI Europe, and National Council committee members, to identify speakers, and align the content with ULI Netherlands’ programme of work.
  • Handle and attend all logistics before, during, and after each event.
  • Work strategically to streamline the delivery of events.
    • Leverage events to maximise membership growth for ULI Netherlands and proactively follow up with engaged non-members during and after the events.
    • In partnership with the Executive Director ULI Netherlands, manage and oversee the delivery of events and programmes for Young Leaders and NEXT groups.

Marketing and communication

  • Understand, communicate, and deliver the ULI brand to the Dutch market.
  • Write copy for event marketing emails, newsletters, and promotional materials.
  • Work in partnership with the Executive Director ULI Netherlands and the National Councils’ Team in London to produce high-quality, appealing, creative, and tailored Netherlands marketing materials; and create and implement innovative and effective marketing strategies, including:
  • Monitoring all marketing responses, analysing the effectiveness of marketing outlets, and delivering pre-/post-event marketing analysis including delegate feedback surveys.
  • Managing social media campaigns and community management.
  • Promoting ULI Netherlands events (physical or virtual) within the community and on social networks. Animation of ULI Netherlands social networks, with the help of marcomms colleagues and potential external experts.
  • Keeping the ULI Netherlands website up to date.

General Management

  • Access records from ULI’s database, reports, badges, invoices, etc., as needed.
  • Work closely with ULI colleagues to analyse membership engagement and retention and pro-actively reach out to non-engaged members/members whose membership is expiring
  • Provide the ULI Netherlands Executive Director with membership analysis results to assess and finetune the Council’s growth strategy.
  • Perform other operational duties and manage projects, as required.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Independent self-starter with the ability to work with minimal supervision to produce a high-quality product and a successful outcome.
  • Experienced communicator and/or project manager including the organisation of content, marketing, coordination and accounting related to events
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills—an ability to interact with members and ULI staff at all levels.
  • Outstanding customer/member service orientation.
  • Ability to successfully handle multiple priorities, as well as adapt quickly to shifting duties and responsibilities.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills to meet deadlines and follow up with final details, as well as a commitment to detail and accuracy.
  • Experience working, managing and negotiating with third-party suppliers.
  • A positive outlook, a collaborative and partnership approach.
  • Strong team player.
  • Fluent in Dutch and proficient in English—both written and spoken.
  • Excellent writing skills.
  • Fluent/proficient computer skills and strong aptitude with computer software for applications in word processing (Microsoft Office), spreadsheets (Excel), and social media are required. Design skills and website software (WordPress, Canva and basic HTML) are a bonus.
  • Occasional travel required (Netherlands and Europe).
  • Knowledge of the real estate industry and key players would be a plus, but not a requirement
  • Experience in social media and digital marketing would be a plus, but can otherwise be learned

CONTRACTUAL TERMS

This is a contractor position, not a salaried employment role. The selected individual will enter into a freelance contract with ULI and must be registered with a valid Netherlands VAT number.

  • Payment will be issued upon invoice submission in accordance with the agreed-upon rate and payment terms.
  • The contractor will be responsible for their own social security contributions, taxes, insurance, and compliance with applicable Netherlands laws governing freelance work.
